Automatic deposits

Updated 2 min read

Automatic deposits refill your balance from a saved card whenever it drops below a level you set. They are off until you turn them on, and they are the only way your card is charged without you clicking anything.

Turn them on

  1. Save a card first: Billing > Payment methods > Add a card, or pay a deposit by card once.
  2. On the same Payment methods page, find Automatic deposits.
  3. Turn on Refill my balance automatically.
  4. Set Refill amount (how much to add each time) and When my balance falls below (the trigger).
  5. Click Save changes.

The card marked Default is charged. The Billing page then reads "Automatic deposits are on" with your amount and threshold.

How it behaves

  • The balance is checked regularly, not the instant it dips, so leave some headroom above what a renewal or a busy day costs.
  • Each refill is an ordinary card deposit, including any payment fee the card method carries: it appears under Billing > Deposits and produces an invoice.
  • If a charge fails, for example because the card expired, automatic deposits switch themselves off and we email you. Fix the card and turn them back on.
  • Removing the card that funds them moves them to your oldest remaining saved card. If you remove your last card, nothing can be charged, and the Billing page says so. The dashboard tells you which will happen before you remove a card.

Why pair it with Auto-buy

Auto-buy renews ISP and datacenter IPs from your balance. With automatic deposits on, a renewal that finds the balance short waits for the next refill instead of failing straight away. See Renewing ISP and datacenter IPs.

Turn them off

Switch off Refill my balance automatically and click Save changes. Nothing else changes; your balance stays where it is.
