Keeping your account secure: password, two-factor, sessions

Updated 2 min read

Everything here starts from one page: open the account menu, choose My account, then the Security tab. Turn on two-factor authentication first; it means a stolen password is not enough on its own.

Turn on two-factor authentication

You need an authenticator app on your phone.

  1. Under Two-factor authentication, find Authenticator app and click Set up.
  2. Scan the QR code with your app. If you cannot scan, type the Setup key or paste the link shown under it.
  3. Enter the six-digit code the app shows and click Turn on.

If the code is rejected, click Start again and scan the new code.

From then on, signing in asks for a code after your password. Keep the authenticator app backed up: if you lose the phone or the app, write to support@proxyhive.io from the account's email address to get back in.

To turn it off, click Manage, then Turn off two-factor authentication, enter your current password and click Turn off.

Change your password

Click Change password, enter the current one and the new one twice, then Save password. Forgotten it? Sign out and use Forgot your password? on the Log in page. If the emailed link does not open a page where you can set a new password, write to support@proxyhive.io from the account's email address.

See where you are signed in

Where you are signed in lists recent sign-ins with device, location and IP address. If one is not yours:

  1. Click Sign out everywhere else. You stay signed in on the device you are using.
  2. Change your password.
  3. Turn on two-factor authentication if it is off.

A device that was already signed in may keep access for a while after this, so also tell us at support@proxyhive.io.

Proxy credentials and API keys are separate

Your dashboard password is not your proxy password. If proxy credentials or an API key may have leaked, change or revoke those too, and remove addresses you no longer use from each proxy's IP allowlist. See Connecting with a username and password and API keys, the API playground and webhooks.

Think someone else got into the account? Tell us at support@proxyhive.io straight away.
